LUBRICATION SYSTEM

INTRODUCTION:-

 As we know that lubrication is a process of flowing & covering the mating surfaces which are in relative motion with each other.

 In an I.C.E all most all engine parts have relative motion due to which the component gets rubbed against each other. This rubbing action will damage the parts or components after some time.

 Thus it become very much necessary to lubricate the parts/ components to increase there service life.

MAIN OBJECTIVE :-

 It reduce the friction between mating parts & reduce there wear & tear . An oil film is formed between the mating parts which prevents them from coming in direct contact with each other.

 It reduces the power consumption inorder to drive the component.

 It acts as a cooling mediumfor removing the heat.

 It acts as cleaning agent by preventing the carbon deposition over the surface of component & carry away harmful substance that result due to incomplete combustion.

 It acts as a sealing agent & provides a good seal between piston rings & cylinder wall.

PETROIL LUBRICATION SYSTEM

 This is the simplest type of lubrication system. This method of lubrication is used in small engines like engine of scooters & motorcycle.

 In this method of lubrication the lubricating oil is mixed with petrol & fed into the engine cylinder during suction stroke.

 About 3-6% of lubricating oil is added with petrol in petrol tank. When engine starts working the crank compresses the fuel in crank case due to which the gasoline evaporates & moves upward in combustion chamber while the lubricating oil left behind in form of mist(fog).

 The parts of engine such as piston, cylinder wall & connecting rod are lubricated by this mist.

 ADVANTAGES:-

1. It is simple in construction as no external system is required for lubrication.

 2. Low cost.

3. No maintainance cost is required for lubrication system.

 4. Causes less engine weight.

 Disadvantages:-

1. If lubricating oil added is less ,there will be in sufficient lubrication & causes seizure of piston.

2. If lubricating oil is added more, it will produces large smoke.

 3. It creates Problem in engine staring.

WET SUMP LUBRICATION SYSTEM

 These system employs a large capacity oil sump at the base of or bottom of crank chamber & it from this sump the lubricating oil is drawn by a low pressure pump & is forced to various engine parts.

 The oil after circulating to different parts return back to the sump.

 In this type of lubrication system the sump is always filled with the lubricating oil hence it is called as wet sump lubrication system.

 Wet sump lubrication system is of three types:-

1. Splash lubrication system.

2. Semi pressurized lubrication system.

3. Full pressurized lubrication system.
